Another Sunday and two more tunes

We got together this afternoon to practice a little, and we recorded two more tunes.

The first is a Scandinavian waltz in a minor key. The title means "last waltz."

Sidste Vals

The next is a Scottish and Irish traditional song, which, according to Wikipedia, was "often sung at the end of a gathering of friends." The first verse:

Of all the money e'er I had,
I spent it in good company.
And all the harm e'er I've done,
Alas! it was to none but me.
And all I've done for want of wit
To mem'ry now I can't recall
So fill to me the parting glass
Good night and joy be with you all.

Sunday night jam

We got together on this hot and steamy July evening to record a few more tunes that we've worked on in the past.

First is one by Turlough O'Carolan, the 18th-century-born blind Irish harpist known for his melodic gift:

Carolan's Welcome

Next is a medley of two Bulgarian tunes:

Karamfil/Sto mi je milo

The last one is self-explanatory (unless you are under 50! but are any young 'uns actually reading this?):

New tunes

We decided to get together and burn a few more tunes ... though we spaced it out and redid "Yesterday" instead of something different. But hey, we're folk musicians! Do you expect us to be organized? :)

First is a medley of an O'Carolan tune, followed by two reels:

Princess Royal/Gilderoy/Red-Haired Boy

Here's "Yesterday" again -- we hope it's maybe a bit better, or slightly different, than our earlier version:

Yesterday

And finally, a pretty waltz:

Welcome to Whitney Street

We are a group of four musicians (recorder, violin, cello, and guitar) who get together on occasion to make music. We play an assortment ranging from English country dance tunes to jazz standards. We created this blog as a place to share some of our recordings, upcoming events, and other items of interest.

More to come!
